PU (Polyurethane) coating is more durable, heat- and moisture-resistant, and ideal for high-use surfaces. Melamine is more economical, smoother, and great for furniture with moderate use.

With proper care, PU and Polyester coatings last 8–12 years. Natural and Melamine finishes typically last 4–6 years before a re-coat is recommended.
